SPF

Sun Protection Factor. The SPF measures the length of time you can stay in the Sun before you will burn. As a general rule - SPF factor times by 4 - to mulitipy the lenght of time you are protected from the Sun's UV rays

SPF 15 - you can stay in the Sun for 1 hour before burning

SPF 25 - 1 ½ hours

SPF 30 - 2 hours

SPF 45 - 3 hours

SPF 50 - 3 ½ hours

Just keep in mind the higher the SPF the higher the chemical content. I recommend an SPF 30 for children and to reapply at least every 2 hours. Any higher and their delicate skin could have a reaction.

There are 2 types of sunscreens available, chemical sunscreens and physical sunscreens.

Chemical sunscreen work by absorbing UV rays and release the energy as heat. If you have a sensitive skin you may experience irritation from a chemical based sunscreen, especially one with a high SPF.

Physical sunscreens work by reflecting the Sun’s UV rays and because they are chemical free, they will not cause irritation to the skin.
